The DeSantis DREAM Lab uses modern, historic, and fossil records to clarify ecological and evolutionary responses to climate change across the globe and throughout the Cenozoic, with a focus on mammalian communities.

We bring fossils to life and share their stories

Research

Sabertooth cats and dire wolves are just a few of the Pleistocene’s most notorious predators. We study apex predators and their prey across the globe, with a focus on North America and Australia. We work on modern, historic, and fossil mammals - decoding the ecology of these mammals using morphological, geochemical, dental microwear textures, and macroecological tools. We ask interdisciplinary questions that integrate the biological and geological sciences.

Education & Outreach

We are committed to sharing our excitement about fossils and educating the next generation about ecology, evolution, and paleontology. From “Meet a Scientists” to “Fossil at the Fort” to numerous on-line resources, including teaching resources, fossil are a fun way to engage students and the public while improving scientific literacy.

“In the end we will conserve only what we love.  We will love only what we understand.  We will understand only what we are taught.”
